The Insurgent Forces, commonly shortened to just Insurgents, are a faction in Insurgency and Insurgency: Sandstorm. They are a generalized grouping of various insurgencies, terrorist organizations, rebel movements, revolutionary cells, guerilla armies, military defectors, and criminal organizations operating in the series' nondescript Middle Eastern setting, as well as various arms smugglers, international crime syndicates, foreign sympathizers, and mercenaries that support and equip them. The motives of the Insurgents are deliberately left unclear. They are the opponents of the Security Forces. They have existed since Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat, when they were the Iraqi Insurgents, the opponents of the USMC.
The Insurgents are loosely based on various terrorist organizations and rebel insurgencies that took part in conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa during the early 21st century, including Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, the Islamic State, the Popular Mobilization Forces, Hamas, the Houthi movement, al-Shabaab, and various other terrorist cells, rebel groups, criminal organizations, and mercenary forces. It is also implied that state-backed forces loosely based on the Quds Force, Hezbollah, and Wagner Group are involved with the Insurgents.

Trivia[]
- The cut campaign of Insurgency: Sandstorm would have established the Insurgents as the various insurgencies operating in Iraq, based on its Iraq War setting. However, as the campaign was ultimately never released and the game went for a more non-specific setting, it can be presumed this is non-canon and no longer applies.
