The WG3 (German: Gewehr 3, Translation: Gun 3) is a 7.62×51mm NATO, select-fire battle rifle developed in the 1950s by the German armament manufacturer Heckler & Koch in collaboration with the Spanish design and development agency CETME. It was adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1959. While the G3 has since been widely replaced by H&K's G36 in 1995-1996, it still remains in service today.

Insurgency: Sandstorm[]

The G3A3 is a battle rifle featured in Insurgency: Sandstorm, available to Security riflemen and its sub-classes for 4 Supply Credits.

As the Security counterpart to the Insurgent's FN FAL, the G3 inherently chambers a large 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. This bullet is a powerhouse, able to penetrate many surfaces and will kill in one shot at even the most extreme distances. Unlike the FAL, the G3 is well suited for these extreme ranges. With a velocity rivaling the bolt action rifles, the G3 doesn't need to lead targets by that much. It is meant to send 7.62 NATO hard and fast.

With such a consistent one hit potential, the attachments are specialized towards long range. Unlike the FAL, the G3 can mount the extreme range scopes like the 7x Scopes and the toggle 6x-3x Scopes as well as a bipod for stabilized shooting.

The G3A3 has the slowest fire rate of all the battle rifles in the game, as a sluggish 500 RPM. With bullets that tear through targets, this isn't usually a problem, but the G3 will fall short to its Insurgent counterpart and weapons that fire faster than it. Because of this, it's usually advised to stay away from CQB unless prepared. Also, the base magazine capacity is only 20 rounds, with an extension costing another 2 credits in order to increase it to the base of 30. With one hit rounds, it does not require reloading too often, but having 10 rounds less can be an issue in certain situations.
