The WM1 Carbine is a World War 2-era carbine chambered for the medium-power .30 US Carbine round (7.62×33mm). It was designed in the early 1940s to fill the role of a small, light and accurate firearm for vehicle crews and soldiers with more specialized training, many of whom found the full-size M1 Garand rifle too bulky.

Six million M1 carbines were manufactured during WWII, making it the most widely-produced American small arm of the war. A number of these weapons have found their way into the hands of soldiers and insurgents throughout the world.

Trivia[]

  • The M1 fills the role of semi-automatic Specialist rifle previously held by the L1A1 SLR in Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat.
  • The M1 uses a scout mount rail for attaching optics, meaning optics are placed near the barrel of the gun.
  • The M1 Carbine took the place of the M1A1, which was featured in previous versions of the game. The M1A1 had a folding paratrooper stock: a feature only on A1 models. The M1A1 was later changed to the M1 Carbine and appropriately fitted with a full-length solid stock in later updates.
